my little movie stars

So like most people with pets (and no kids), our dogs pretty much rule our lives. We love them so much. They are both lhasa apsos, but have opposite personalities. One funny thing I have come to realize about them is that they both resemble characters from movies.

Let's start with my baby boy. His name is Luke and he'll be 4 in April. (I'll explain why we named him that later.) Luke acts more like a cat than he does a dog. He always lays on the arm of the couch, he rubs against you for some lovin' and he curls up in the tiniest little ball to nap all day long. We adopted him when he was a year and a half old from a lady who was giving him away and he had lived with a cat for his whole life up to then, so that might explain things. He's much sweeter than his big sister. But he's also very scared. He's timid and has sad eyes that can break your heart. His life is full if you are rubbing him and showing him any sort of love at all. I call him my little man, lukey, duke or dukey boy.

It was really hard for me to capture this, but he reminds me so much of Sid from Ice Age. I think it's mostly because he has no chin. It's just a small tiny lower jaw and looks really funny when he's cut really short. Do you see the resemblance?

Then we have Kowe. (That's koh-wee, not cow-wee.) She will be 5 in July and we've had her since she was 6 weeks old. She's my baby, through and through. She's short, fat, and oh so sassy. She isn't that well behaved and can be downright ferocious. I've been bitten on several occasions (with the stitch scars on my nose to prove it!), but...and I don't want to sound like an abused mom in denial...it really is usually our fault. We've done research about the breed and this is in their nature. It always happens when she's sleeping and is awoken suddenly. That's because she sleeps in my bed. With her head on my pillow. (Needless to say, if/when we have kids, they will be nowhere near her when she sleeps!) And she pretty much hates her little brother. Gee, I make her sound so wonderful...BUT she is also a huge cuddlebug and can show her love in the best way possible. She is actually a sweet little worried mommy whenever babies are around and especially when our nephews are here. She lays by my side and makes silly noises, has stinky little feet that I love so much and she has the longest eyelashes you've ever seen. I call her my little bunny rabbit or boobies (don't know where that came from).

If you didn't catch it, Kowe is ewok spelled backward. She has outgrown the look a bit as she's gotten bigger and less fluff-bally, but take a look at this funny pic...isn't that the cutest little ewok you've ever seen?! (And, as you may also have put together, Lukey got his name after someone suggested we stick with the Star Wars theme. Luke fits him perfectly...much better than Tashi, which is the (girly) name that the other lady had for him.

Finally, a little infertile note is that Kowe is also an infertile. (She's an IF sista!) We never considered breeding her, so when she was getting fixed, the doctor discovered that she had a condition in her uterus that would have resulted in her death had she ever gotten pg. It makes me really sad. This was well before our days of IF so I didn't pay much attention to it and was just glad she was okay, but I don't know what the exact condition was. However, I like to think that she had a septum just like me! It just makes me feel better.

And there you have it, my little hollywood babies.

  1. I absolutely love your babies! Luke sounds like an angel, just so perfect. And Kowe, though resembling very much like an Ewok, is way cuter. And I love her name too.

  6. Both of your puppies are adorable! One of our dogs is also an ewok lookalike when she's been groomed. I just gave her a haircut earlier this month, so she is sporting her ewok look.

  8. Darling and I love the Star Wars-themed names. All I can say is no one can ever underestimate the love of a dog. I'm not sure how we'd have gotten this far, somewhat unscathed, without our sweet dogs.

  10. Oh - they are absolutely gorgeous!! Our little JourneyDog has always slept in bed with us (though he did get thrown out a few times early on because he did wee in there) but now we are working on him sleeping in his bed on the floor next to my side of the bed.
