1 Week Down!

Ohh my gosh! I can't believe we're one week in! As I write this, I am amazed that one week ago I was in the throes of labor and just hours away from welcoming my angel. And I can't believe how quickly the week has gone by. It's going too quick already and I feel like she grows and changes every single day!!

I'm still hoping to post my birth story tomorrow. It was a doozy!!

But for now, I thought I'd do a quick update, bullet-style.
*I feel like I'm jinxing myself every time I say it, but things are going amazingly smooth! She is sleeping 3-4 hours at a time, so I'm only having to wake up once at night to feed. I feel like I'm getting plenty of sleep...no less than I ever got before I had her because I'm bad about going to bed on time!
*Breastfeeding is going okay. I'm not having any major issues, but I do have some scabbing on the tips of my nipples. My milk came in with much force, so they're really tingly and full and sore. And I am still not 100% confident with her latch. Some feedings it hurts like the dickens and then other ones it feels really good to empty my breasts. I missed the lactation consultant when she called yesterday so hopefully I can touch base with her on Monday.
*She had her newborn appointment on Thursday and is perfect! She had gained some weight back and looked really good. The doctor was really happy and they re-tested her jaundice level and that came back really good.
*We started her on her cloth diapers today. She's got skinny little legs, so the first few leaked through. So far, we've had 4 or 5 that haven't leaked but J went and bought one pkg of disposables in case they keep leaking. Any CD'ing mamas out there--if you have advice, please share! I think her legs just aren't filling out the holes like they should. We're using ones that say they can start at 7 lbs., and at her appointment on Thursday, she was 7 lbs 1 ounce, so I'm just thinking she's a bit small.
*J and I are working really well together. It's pretty great. I'm not as much of a control freak as I thought I would be, and he's not as micro-managey as I thought he'd be. SO basically, we're both doing our part and letting the other do theirs. So far, so good. I'm pretty proud of us.
*Finally, a friend of mine from college came to the house yesterday to do her newborn photo shoot. We got this sneak peak pic this afternoon and if it's any indication of how they're going to turn out, my checkbook is in big trouble! I am in love with this picture. Her big eyes are so alert and looking right at the camera. She's such a little gem. And I love her little ears sticking out. I can't wait to see the rest!!

Like I said, I'm working on my birth story. I'm also working on a post about my experience with packing for the hospital. I want to document it for the next time, but also to help anyone out who is getting ready to have a baby. I went by many of the online lists and definitely overpacked for some things and underpacked for others. So stay tuned for that! I have a lot of things swimming around in my head but am working on finding the time to get the posts written!

  1. Love the photo!!! As for CDs I find that the run larger than indicated. My daughter was 8.3 and they were large on her till about 10 lbs. What brand are you using?

  5. Yeah, one size diapers typically don't fit the little newborns yet. You might just give it a little bit longer and another couple of pounds. Which brand are you trying?

I am glad it is going so well! She is absolutely adorable.

  10. She is so incredibly beautiful, that picture is precious!!! Glad to hear you're all doing well. I had planned to CD too, I've heard that often times they're a bit too big initially, but once she fills in a bit I'm sure they'll work out alright. Hope things continue smoothly for you guys:)

  11. She is just so beautiful! I'm so glad to hear that everything is going very well. As for breastfeeding and sore nipples, do you use a Lanolin cream after EVERY feeding? I like the Lansinoh kind. It really helps and was a life saver those first few weeks.
