Product Review: Nursing Covers

I'm glad I could help a few of you with the Milk Storage Bag Review!
In keeping with the same theme, today I am reviewing the two nursing covers that I personally own,
Udder Covers and Bebe au Lait.

I own the Bebe au Lait in MarmontPhoto Credit

Features to consider:
  • Cost
  • Quality
  • Coverage
First off, why have two, you ask? Well, I didn't intend on having two. I purchased the Udder Cover myself (during one of their "free-just pay shipping" sales) and I received the Bebe au Lait as a gift. But as I've ventured into the land of nursing/pumping, I am so incredibly happy that I have two. Initially, it was nice to be able to have one in the wash and still one available when there were visitors. As we started going into public more, I quickly discovered it was nice to have one in my diaper bag at all times and one at home for if/when there would be an occasional visitor. Now that I'm back to work, I keep one with my pump and one at home/in the diaper bag. So I do highly recommend having an extra, it will come in handy--I promise!

Here are my thoughts on the features listed above:

CostUdder Cover: Regularly Priced at $32, I purchased for FREE, I just paid $9 S/H, so the "real cost" was like $8 or $9
*Note: I have seen this sale advertised often. I did a quick check and it looks like they might be running the sale right now if you enter code Family2011 at check-out. Don't quote me on that because I haven't tried it, but just know that they do run this offer quite often. If you're interested in getting one, I would recommend doing so with this deal!Bebe au Lait: Regularly Priced at $35, I did not purchase so I don't know if it was on sale

Winner? Udder Cover
QualityI am a bigger fan of the quality of the Bebe au Lait. The material is much thicker and the colors are more saturated. (Granted, that could be due to the particular patterns I have.) Both are good quality, but to give you a comparison, the Udder Cover is thinner and not as sturdy--more like a sheet. The Bebe au Lait is thicker and more stiff--more like a quilting fabric. I have washed both several times and they wash really well. Both have an adjustable neck strap along with a bar that runs the length of the front/top of the cover, allowing you to bend and have it stick out. This is nice for talking to the baby while you nurse and also especially nice for being able to see as you get her latched and still remaining covered. One "extra" that the Bebe au Lait has is a little triangular pocket on the lower corners of each side. This is a nice little storage space for breast pads or I have also put a small cloth in there for burping/leaks/etc.

Again, both are good quality covers. But...
Winner? Bebe au Lait

Coverage:
Again, both get the job done. As I mentioned before, the Udder Cover isn't as thick/stiff of a fabric. It is also quite a bit more narrow than the Bebe au Lait. Those combined, for me, mean that the Bebe au Lait offers better coverage. When you have a wiggly little baby under there, the added length on each side is helpful. It's also nice because the thicker fabric allows you to just prop it out a bit and you can see the baby a lot easer looking down the front. I use the Udder Cover as my pumping cover since I never have to deal with the squirmy baby and I have both hands free to work with the fabric a little easier.

Winner? Bebe au Lait
I hope this information is helpful as you consider nursing covers. I guess, for me, if I had to do it over again, I would choose the same option...to get BOTH! You can't beat the deal on the Udder Cover, yet the Bebe au Lait is a little nicer and offers better coverage. If you're anything like me, having an extra one will come in very handy for days when you're backed up on laundry or if you just don't want to have to remember to pack the cover every time you leave the house. Just get two and you'll always have one readily at hand!

Please let me know if there are other items that you'd like to see me review or if you have questions about anything at all! I am working on a review of breast pads, so that will be up next!
