Tubes It Is

I mentioned in Wren's 9 Month Update that she had another ear infection. We were referred to a specialist and we had that appointment on Monday. As expected, he said that she is a prime candidate for tubes because of the repeated infections. Because of our trip to Mexico in 1 1/2 weeks, followed by his own vacation, it was going to be September 20th before he could get us in. I wasn't comfortable waiting a whole month, so we were going to schedule with another doctor but they were able to make time this week.

Wren is scheduled for surgery tomorrow (Wednesday, 8/24). We go in at 6:30am and her surgery is scheduled at 8:30. She can't eat or drink anything after midnight tonight, so we're going to wake her up at around 11 and give her some milk in hopes that she won't be AS hungry tomorrow morning.
Please keep my little bird in your prayers. I know it's a simple procedure, done frequently to many children. But it's still scary--it does involve anesthesia, so there are slight risks with that. I'm very relieved that it will hopefully help with the ear infections, but I still get a lump in my throat just thinking about them taking my little peanut away and working on her.

I would appreciate your prayers and I'll update you all after the surgery tomorrow.

  2. Oh! Poor Wren :( I know it's hard, (so, so hard) to see your baby go through any sort of surgery. Hang in there Momma. You guys will be in our prayers! And hopefully, tubes will end the ear infections!

  3. Poor Wren! I had tubes put in but they didn't do it until I was in 3rd grade. However, as one who suffered from ear infections for years I can say it is wonderful she is getting help now. Did they check into why? I had to cut out milk, chocolate and caffeine without those things I rarely have a problem.
PS Thanks for all the info in your email. I am planning on email you back. It has been crazy lately.

  8. Thinking of you and Wren. I hope you notice a big difference quickly and that she's a lot happier.

And you're right, just because it's done to thousands of kids each day, it's being done to YOUR kid today - and that's always going to scare the bajeebers out of any parent worth their salt.
